«Catechesis is an education of children, young people and adults in the faith, which includes, especially the teaching of Christian doctrine imparted, generally speaking, in an organic and systematic way, with a view to initiating the hearers into the fullness of Christian life.»

John Paul II, Catechesi tradendae, 1979

What is Catechesis?

Faith is instilled at home, right from the cradle. It is within the family context that parents and grandparents teach children to pray and to treat God as a Father. It is at home that they are told stories from the Bible and it is at home that they are taught the maxims of Christian life that Jesus left us with.

In addition to the lived faith received at home, it is important to learn more systematically about God and the teachings of the Church. Catechesis is this structurised teaching of our faith. Different methodologies, programs and schemes can be used, largely dependent on the different groups, age and maturity.
