Equipas de Nossa Senhora (Teams of Our Lady)

The Teams of Our Lady (ENS) is a movement of conjugal spirituality that aims to help couples to fully live their sacrament of Matrimony, announcing to the world the values of a Christian marriage through word and life witness. It is a training school for Christian couples united by the sacrament of Matrimony.

Despite not being a Marian movement, the ENS receive the name of Mary, placing themselves under her protection. There is no better guide to help reach God than the one “who occupies the first place among the humble and the poor of the Lord who hope and receive his salvation with confidence” (Lumen Gentium {L.G.} 55).

The Teams of Our Lady offer concrete means to help couples to nurture conjugal love and to continue on their journey of conversion. Couples, aware of their own weaknesses and the difficulties they encounter, decide to form a team and constitute a community of faith to walk together on a path of conversion, supporting each other

The teams are made up of an indicative number of 5 to 7 couples and a priest, designated Spiritual Advisor. They meet every month for prayer, sharing and the study of a theme for Christian growth, thus helping each other on their journey with Christ.

The Teams of Our Lady is a movement that has spread throughout the world. In Portugal, the movement has been in existence for over 60 years and has spread throughout the country to the islands (Madeira and the Azores) and Portuguese-speaking Africa (Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe). In December 2017 there were 1,291 teams totalling 15,095 members. This includes 6,962 couples, 403 widowers, 739 Spiritual Counsellors and 29 Spiritual Companion (non-priests).
