You would usually be placed with children your own age, or in the same year as you at school, even if you have never had any catechism classes. The catechists will then propose some complementary sessions to catch up with the rest of the group. This does not mean, however, that the sacraments will be celebrated at the same time as the rest of the group. Receiving the sacraments is not necessarily linked to the year of catechism in which you are. When to receive the sacraments depends on the situation and maturity of each child, on the parents and on the opinion of the catechist and the priests who accompany them. When registering for catechesis, you can make a contribution. This will help to cover the regular expenses that catechists incur throughout the year, including the catechisms themselves.

Once you know which catechism group your child has been assigned to, and who the catechist for that group will be, it is very important to accompany them on this path. Catechesis begins at home and catechists can do nothing without the commitment of parents! Keep in close contact with your child’s catechist, who is counting on you to help their growth in the faith.
